Stressed out

I have no idea how I am going to handle getting a passing grade in Math before December 1st and writing and passing an exam on December 11th . I thought it was before Christmas that I had to send in additional grades but everyone else tells me it´s December 1st. I am trying to get a hold of a student counselor but the one that I have talked to previously is on vacation until November 29th. I am trying to get hold of the other two of the 3 that work there but one doesn´t want to handle my "case" and the other is never around. I´ve sent her an email and I am hoping to get a reply from her tomorrow.

I am wondering if I´ve made a mistake by not keeping to my previous plan but I really do NOT want to work with teenagers so I guess not.

I just feel like I am not spending the time I should with my kids, I am always either tired or superbusy with something. But I should try to decorate for Christmas with them, they´ve been asking me to do that.

Studies

I am starting to feel more and more distressed about my studies, it´s not a good feeling! I have an exam to write before Christmas and a math test to do also. Both of these have to be done in order to apply for the new Teacher´s degree teaching Primary School children instead of teaching Secondary School children which I first applied to. Besides that I have to keep up with the English grammar class that I am taking. So, suffice it to say, I have a full plate. I am probably working more than a 40 hour week, at least that is what it feels like.

I want to be able to spend time with my kids too, especially since they´re not around me all the time. I want to be able to help Matilda with her choices when applying to "gymnasieskolan" and to spend time with Aaron doing enjoyable things for both of us. I barely see Alex since she is living away most of the week, studying in Karlstad and having her volleyball practises in Säffle plus everything else that is going on in her life right now.

Sometimes it just feels like I should work more and just study a little but I don´t know if that is the right way to go about it either? What do you think? Anyone have any suggestions?

November already?

I agree with my friend Veronica when she says that she can´t believe that it is November and that a whole semester has almost gone by. Time sure flies by!

I have been studying with another group now, mostly girls from Alingsås but one from Kil also, which is a bit closer to me. But, we haven´t gotten together as the Alingsås people are able to do every week. Our group gets together on Adobe Connect every week though, it is a lot different to just have web meetings, but in a way I guess it is good too. That way you can sit anywhere you like, in any other place you fancy, another continent if you like :) We are studying English for those of you who don´t know that. We have just finished two modules, one is Pronunciation and Oral Proficiency and the other one is Language Acquisiton for Primary School Education. I didn´t care much for the first one mentioned here, but I think that it was just hard to catch up with the pace that she held (because I was in China when it started). But there were also a lot of interesting things that we went through so I guess I shouldn´t complain too much.

My new group and I got to meet in Karlstad last Wednesday for the first time (for me) for the beginning of two new modules. One is English Grammar, which I have a feeling is going to be difficult because I don´t know anything about grammar structures. I just know what sounds right or wrong. It is crucial though, if I want to be a teacher, that I know this. It seems like a tough class to be taking. The other one is called Culture, Media and Society and THAT on the other hand seemed very interesting. Unfortunately, I just last Thursday found out that I probably won´t be able to take that course until in the Spring. I was really looking forward to it too! The reason for that being that I need to pass one exam that I didn´t pass last semester and finish my Math that I need in order to get admitted to the Teacher Education for Primary School Education in the Spring. So, in other words, I have a lot of pressure on me right now to get that done. So, I better stop blogging and start studying. I have a Math test on Tuesday and an outline for an argumentative essay to write before tomorrow. Signing off for now, hope it doesn´t take as long to blog again as it has done up until now. I kind of enjoy it :) !

Home again and have been for a little more than two weeks...

...and our common "everyday" life is back. The girls and I are probably (me: more than likely) behind in our school/homework but they seem to be taking it in good stride. For me it´s quite a different story, I am superstressed and I´m wondering how in the world I will be able to catch up with all of the (school)hours that were lost while I was in China. It was a lot easier for the girls to do their homework while we were there, they at least knew what they had been assigned. Truthfully they were probably more disciplined than me also. But, then again, they are nightowls and they could work with their homework in the middle of the night while the rest of us were sleeping and then instead they would sleep in a little bit later than the rest of us in the morning. My excuse is that it was more difficult for me to know what to do because I was mailing back and forth with the English faculty to find out if I had been admitted to the course or not. I started out with the Teacher Education for older kids and started the semester with reading Swedish. But, I had been feeling for the longest time that it wasn´t the right age group for me to work with. So, instead I´ve decided to read English and Math this semester so that I can begin the younger age groups Teacher Education Swedish/Math in the spring. Math I need so that I can be admitted to the course, I didn´t study enough Math in H.S and English because I will have to study that anyway during the years that I am studying.

I don´t know how I will be able to manage the Math, but I have some extra help from some friends. The English is OK so far, but I need to learn better how to read phonetic script. As it is today, I (mostly) know how to pronounce the words by ear. That is going to be a challenge for me I think.

Well, signing off for today. See you soon again maybe ( I say maybe because I am not sure if there is enough interest for my blogg. I´ve hardly gotten any comments so therefore I don´t know if it is worth continuing)!

23 sept.

Sept. 22nd´s agenda - Forbidden City & Summer Palace

On today´s agenda was the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Eva´s driver Li came and picked us up at 9 a.m. To get ourselves prepared for this outing the girls and I, together with Eva, watched "The Last Emperor"the previous night. We had all seen it before but we wanted to refresh our memories before we were to visit the Forbidden City. Even this day it rained but equipped with umbrellas and an audio guide in English we went from one entrance to another. It stopped raining while we were there. We left, after a couple of hours there, with "our" driver Li to Yashow where we had manicure and pedicure once more and went shopping for the last items on our lists. We ate a quick lunch that we bought at Bocata. In the meantime, driver Li went and picked up mom, Eva & Edda who got to take him in the afternoon while the girls and I hailed a cab, and asked to go to the Summer Palace. Our taxi driver had no idea where he was going. Luckily I was in touch with Eva and she and her driver could direct our taxi driver who had no clue what he was doing. Driver Li got very upset with him for not knowing how to get to one of Beijing´s sites.

During the last 3 days that we were there it was the Chinese Autumn Festival, a holiday for them. Therefore, the Summer Palace was full of Chinese that practically glued themselves to my girls to have pictures taken together with them. Eva, Edda and mom were at a different place in the park and even they, or I should say Edda, was drawing attention to herself. Everyone wanted to touch her and look at her in her baby carriage. It was a little bit tough being in these places on this day because of all the Chinese also visiting. After a lot of difficulty we finally found mom, Eva and Edda. Alexandra had forgotten her cell phone and mine was almost uncharged so the communication between us was a little difficult. But eventually we found each other!

September 21st - Temple of Heaven & Olympic Village

This day it rained abundantly. So, geared up with umbrellas, we started out with the Temple of Heaven where we used an audioguide in English to take us through the various parts.

In the afternoon we went to the Olympic Village, and I wouldn´t be lying, if I said that this was one of the highlights of the trip, especially for the girls who were "all templed out." That night Eva, Edda, Alexandra, Matilda and I went to Modo for dinner. I got to meet lots of Alex and Eva´s friends there. Some that I had seen earlier during our visit and some that I met for the first time. They have some really nice friends!

Kinas hutonger
